French requirements

Plan the national formalities before reaching the port.

External Schengen routes

A yacht arriving from or departing to a non-Schengen country should normally use an official maritime border crossing point and complete the applicable border checks.

Eligible non-PPF marinas

A marina in the French Customs eligible list requires the marina's prior agreement and the official entry or exit declaration. It is not automatically a permanent border point.

Declaration timing

For an eligible-marina arrival, send the form no later than 24 hours before arrival, or when leaving the non-Schengen port if the passage is expected to take less than 24 hours.

Customs status

A qualifying privately used non-Union yacht can generally use EU temporary admission for up to 18 months. Eligibility depends on residence, ownership and use, and the period applies across the EU customs territory.

Vessel use and documents

Private, charter and commercial yachts can face different requirements. Carry registration, insurance, crew, ownership or authority and skipper-qualification records.

Local confirmation

Office attendance, marina acceptance, fees and timing vary. Confirm the plan before arrival or departure.
